Mechanical Engineer

  • On-site, Hybrid
    • Den Haag, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands
  • Data Centres

Job description

Do you have a passion for designing sustainable, intelligent, and future-proof buildings? Are you looking to deepen your expertise and take more ownership in high-impact projects within the Data Center? Join us as a Mechanical Engineer and help shape the built environment of tomorrow.

The challenge

As a Mechanical Engineer, you play a vital role in the design and development of advanced mechanical systems for high-tech and complex projects. You will work in multidisciplinary teams and be responsible for key aspects of the engineering process from concept to implementation helping to create innovative and sustainable solutions for clients in the Data Centers

Your responsibilities include:

  • Taking the lead in the mechanical design of systems such as HVAC, cooling, and technical installations.

  • Translating client needs and functional requirements into integrated, efficient mechanical solutions.

  • Performing detailed calculations for airflow, thermal loads, and energy performance.

  • Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to align design and execution.

  • Contributing to project planning and risk assessments and supporting junior engineers in their development.

  • Collaborating closely with design leads, project managers, and specialists across disciplines.

Projects we are working on:

  • Equinix ML5 Data Center, Milan, Italy: We supported the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design for the new Equinix ML5 Data Center. Our team supervised the construction site, ensuring the quality of installations and acting as commissioning manager. Additionally, we supported the project in achieving a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for sustainability.

  • Netherlands Institute for Space Research (SRON): We designed and developed a sustainable and modern building for SRON, which develops measurement instruments for satellites. The new facility at Leiden BioScience Park required high standards in sustainability, clean rooms, and installation technology. To minimize environmental impact, Deerns integrated heat pumps for heating and cooling, installed solar panels on the roof, and achieved a BREEAM-NL Excellent certification.

  • DSM Lab 6, Delft: We developed the new, sustainable DSM Lab 6, handling all technical installations, including HVAC, mechanical systems, and utilities. By carefully designing the building facade to optimize energy efficiency and indoor climate control, we ensured a naturally cool environment, reducing energy consumption for heating and ventilation.

This is you

  • You have a completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (HBO/WO) in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.

  • You bring at least 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design within building services or related sectors.

  • You are confident in translating technical requirements into practical solutions and are eager to take ownership of your work.

  • You are a strong communicator and collaborator in multidisciplinary teams.

  • You are fluent in both Dutch and English, written and spoken.

  • Tools like Revit, BIM360, MS Office, and calculation software (e.g., VABI, Transys, etc.) are well-known to you.

We offer

  • A position of 32-40 hours per week with a salary to match.

  • Challenging projects for leading clients in the Netherlands and internationally.

  • A work environment in which innovation and sustainability are put into practice daily.

  • Attention to your own development and vitality with ample training and development opportunities, bicycle and sports arrangements, flexible working hours, 33 vacation days and the possibility of purchasing additional days.

  • Hybrid working, where you have the opportunity to alternate between working from home and the office.

  • A team where cooperation and collegiality are priority, and where we interact informally.

  • Sustainability is in our genes. This is expressed, for example, in a mobility policy where health and sustainability are most important. Many of our offices are located near public transport hubs, cycling is encouraged, and your travel expenses are reimbursed 100% on the basis of public transport.
